BENTHE IBSEN TAPESTRY WEAVER AND TEXTILE ARTIST
Biography
Source of inspiration
My artistic expression takes a broad basis in nature, e.g. the source of inspiration can be a photograph of a landscape, flowers, a mountain, etc.
I am fascinated by the way nature communicates with us humans, which I try to express in the evocative motifs as well as the reflective motifs.
But, it is up to the audience what they see in my pictures.
Design process
The composition starts with the photograph being processed on the computer, - cutting, resizing and possibly colours.
The image is then printed in the desired format, where the pieces of paper are assembled manually.
The final composition is completed using the cut and paste method until my idea is satisfactorily visualized.
All yarn is available for the project and the picture loom is set up with a suitable linen trend for weaving.
The motif is always woven in a mixture of wool and silk yarn, which gives a fine nuanced surface.
Mixing many different thin threads together into one thread gives an infinity of color combinations with the possibility of creating structure and depth in motifs.
Only now await many hours of work at the image loom, all the while vision, knowledge and imagination flow freely together during the work of the hands with the threads towards the finished modern unique handicraft. The slow work of the hands is in stark contrast to the fast solutions of the computer.
Finally, the finished tapestry must be stretched and mounted for hanging on the wall.
